What is Gynecomastia?

Gynecomastia is a condition where the male breast tissue becomes enlarged due to an imbalance of estrogen and testosterone. It can affect men of all ages, from teenagers going through puberty to older men experiencing age-related hormonal changes.

The condition is not harmful, but it can cause significant emotional distress, leading men to seek surgical intervention to restore their confidence and physical appearance.

Causes of Gynecomastia

At TAH Global Healthcare, we take every precaution to minimise these risks by employing the latest surgical techniques and providing personalised care for each patient.

Diagnosis of Gynecomastia

  • Physical examination by a doctor to check for signs of breast tissue enlargement, tenderness, and other symptoms.

  • Review of medical history, medications, and lifestyle factors that may contribute to gynecomastia. Additional tests (if needed), such as blood tests and imaging studies.

  • Evaluation of test results to confirm that the enlargement is due to glandular tissue growth and not another underlying condition.

  • At TAH Global Healthcare, specialists conduct thorough evaluations to confirm the diagnosis and determine the best course of treatment for each patient.

Treatment Options for Gynecomastia

Gynecomastia Surgery

Gynecomastia Surgery

(male breast reduction) involves removing excess breast tissue, fat, and, in some cases, skin to achieve a flatter, more masculine chest contour. There are two primary surgical techniques used: Liposuction and Excision.

Liposuction

Liposuction

This is the preferred technique when gynecomastia is caused primarily by fatty tissue. The surgeon makes small incisions and uses a thin tube (cannula) to remove excess fat, sculpting the chest to a more defined appearance.

Excision

Excision

This method is used when there is significant glandular tissue or excess skin that needs to be removed. The surgeon makes an incision around the areola or along the natural contour of the chest to remove the tissue and tighten the remaining skin. Excision is typically recommended for more severe cases (Grade 3 and 4).

Recovery and Aftercare

Recovery from gynecomastia surgery typically takes 1 to 2 weeks, with most patients returning to work or light activities within a few days. During recovery.

A compression garment should be worn to minimize swelling and support the chest as it heals. Pain medication may be prescribed to manage any discomfort during the first few days. Bruising and swelling are common but will gradually subside over the first few weeks. Follow-up appointments will be scheduled to monitor healing and ensure optimal results.

Most patients experience significant improvements in their chest appearance within a few weeks, with final results becoming more apparent as swelling continues to reduce over the next few months.
